Tombstone Huckleberries beat the Nimrod Numnuts by the count of 6 to
5.
Tombstone had 5 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 3rd inning with the
help of 4 hits. The big moment was provided by Jim Thome who elicited a roar
from the hometown fans when he rifled a three-run blast (his 40th of the
season). Nimrod made it exciting in the 9th, but they were unable to push
the needed runs across.
The victory went to Tim Redding(5-3) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 4
runs. J.J. Putz gained credit for his 41st save. Orlando Hernandez(9-6) was
charged with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving up 5 runs
in 2 and 2/3 innings.
Mark Salzwedel was subdued after the ballgame, 'That one really hurts. If our
guys had simply played more fundamentally sound, we could have won that one.
That is what really ticks me off!'
